The US sub-prime crisis in graphics by BBC News

This is a very concise article summing up what has happened over the last few month in the mortgage industry here in the States. As a Washingtonian, I have a hard time hearing all the "doom and gloom" news about U.S. real estate. Here in the Northwest we have one of the strongest economies in the nation. 2 big factors... 1. Boing, Microsoft, and the companies that support them are still growing and hiring. 2. The Northwest's home values grew modestly compared to the 30% - 40% annual growth other parts of our country are now deflating from.

That said, here is sub-prime explained in graphics and a few national predictions of where real estate is headed.
