I know I bought less this year, how 'bout you?

Retailers predicted that sales this year would only increase 2.2% this year (a six year low). In a few weeks we will get the reports from retailers to find out exactly how this year's holiday shopping season went. There is a part of me hoping to hear that people bought a whole lot less 'stuff' this year. It kills me to hear our leaders in times of crisis tell us to 'keep shopping'. Now, facing a recession, the public is simply not willing to prop up unsustainable consumerism. Free money is no longer flowing out of our real estate and as major corporations are bailed out, it will be exciting to see how our economy finds a solid foundation.
